As state lawmakers search for ways to immediately stimulate Oregon's malnourished economy, a new economic analysis shows investing in local food for the school lunchroom provides a great return on investment. As an added benefit, Oregon children learn where their food comes from, how to grow their own food and the value of fresh fruits & vegetables in the diet. Speakers for the program include:
Linda Colwell, classically trained chef and founder of the Garden of Wonders, the Abernethy Kitchen and Eat. Think. Grow. She is widely regarded as the mother of the Farm to School program in Oregon.
Mel Rader, from Upstream Public Health, who will speak to the progress of HB 2800, which would fund Farm to School statewide..
Jen Brown, Farm to School Program Director, Corvallis Environmental Center
This program is a LUNCH meeting, with lunch provided by Valley Catering.
Cost: Members without lunch…free admission
Members with lunch…$10
Non-members without lunch… $5 admission fee
Non-members with lunch… $15
